With regard to the review process of BAT reference documents, the European IPPC Bureau (EIPPC) has published the first draft of the 'Best Available Techniques’ (BAT) on Waste treatment (WT) on 18 December 2015.
The comprehensive draft (> 1000 pages) covers as well the biological waste treatment techniques (composting, anaerobic digestion and mechanical biological treatment, and is available on the EIPPC website:

For our sector the main important chapters are the following:
- Chapter 4 (pp. 361-501), includes the descrtiption of the biological treatment techniques (Composting, AD, MBT)
- Chapter 6, including the BAT conclusions
- Chapter 6.1 general conclusions (pp. 882-903)
- Chapter 6.3 conclusions for biological treatment (pp. 908 -911)
We have the possibility to comment on this draft online in the BATIS system of the EIPPC until the 18 March 2016.
To summarise and to submit your comments in time, we kindly ask you to provide us your comments on the relevant chapters (C4 and C6) by filling up the attached comment table and please send this back to the ECN office (email: info@compostnetwork.info) until 25 Januar 2016 .
Please focus mainly on C6 as these BAT conclusions are going to be important for licencing of the plants concerned.
