EP IMCO Workshop
Reforming Single Market for Fertilising Products
On 12 October 2016 the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Policy Department of the European Parliament organised the first stakeholder conference on the new proposal for a ?Fertilising Product Regulation?.

The workshop was chaired by the rapporteur MEP Adam Szejnfeld (EPP, PL). Besides several members of the European Parliament more than 80 external participants followed the discussion. The European Compost Network was actively involved in the round table discussion and used the opportunity to present its position on the new fertilisers proposals.

The debate will be followed up in the responsible Committees of the European Parliament in the next months. The draft report of IMCO is announced for the 6 December and the final vote in the IMCO is scheduled on 11 May 2017.

Commission?s work programme 2017 published

Under the title ?Delivering a Europe that protects, empowers and defends? the European Commission has published its work programme 2017 on 25 October 2016.

With regard to Circular Economy the Commission will focus on the implementation of the Action Plan by setting up the following new initiatives:

  • Strategy on plastic use,
  • Proposal for a Regulation on minimum quality requirements for reused water,
  • REFIT revision of the Drinking Water Directive,
  • Initiative to address legal, technical or practical bottlenecks at the interface of chemical, product and waste legislation, and
  • Monitoring framework for the circular economy.

„Circular Economy: the Role of Biowaste and Plastics”ISWA’s European Group is inviting to this upcoming event on 14 November 2016 at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels which is coorganized by ISWA’s Working Group on Biological Treatment of Waste (WGBTW). With the Circular Economy Package being at the top of the European waste and resources management agenda, ISWA?s European Group aims to facilitate and advance the debate between the stakeholders, informing evidence based policies. Opening keynotes by:

  • Mr Kęsţutis Sadauskas, Director DG Environment, European Commission and
  • Ms Bettina Kamuk, Chair Scientific and Technical Committee, ISWA

This event will focus on two themed sessions:

  • Circular Economy and Biowaste (Moderator: Marco Ricci, Chair Working Group on Biological Treatment of Waste, ISWA)
  • Circular Economy and Plastics (Moderator: Costas Velis, Vice Chair European Group, ISWA)

Each session, roughly two hours, will feature a panel discussion followed by an open Q&A session with the audience.

The event is strictly limited to 120 participants, so please register well in advance.

26th BIOGAS Convention in Hanover (DE)

Combined with the EnergyDecentral or EuroTier the biogas sector will come together to inform about new markets and policy changes and to discuss the newest developments in the biogas sector.

During this event there will be a large international programme part that informs in English about biogas in developing and emerging as well as in industrialized countries. The „Biogas Basics” workshop offers an introductory workshop into the biogas technology.
